Virtualization

Virtualization really seems like it is moving to the main stream. I see huge benefits for it in development environments, but am looking for other ways to effectively utilize it in the enterprise. If anyone has any thoughts or experience good or bad, I would love to hear from you.

Something I found interesting is in VMware where you can actually create a Cluster through virtual machines with a shared disk over the network. With this model, you could create Virtual Machines that appeared to be sharing the same physical disk, but could be in separate buildings. I wouldn't recommend it over a slow serial link, but across a fiber Gig connection, this has some interesting possibilities.

Or you could go with an IP SAN ;)

That sounds really cool! That sounds like a great interim for those moving towards a SAN but aren't quite ready.
